Duterte Seeks To Strengthen OFW Welfare In Middle East
President Rodrigo Duterte will have a weeklong trip in the Middle East, aiming to improve Overseas Filipino Workers’ (OFW) welfare, stated by the Department of Foreign Affairs
From April 10 to 16, 2017, Duterte will meet with the leaders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Doha.
The purpose of the meeting is to “strengthen efforts for the rights and promotions of the welfare of the Filipinos working in those countries,” Hjayceelyn Quintana, assistant secretary of the Office of Middle and African Affairs, said.
According to the pre-departure briefing in Malacañang, Quintana stated inviting investors is part of Duterte’s agenda during the Middle East trip. This aims to strengthen partnerships with the three mentioned countries.
As of recent reports, there are 1,067,433 Filipino workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Doha.
