New Zealand OFWs Abused
Overseas Filipino workers are reportedly maltreated in New Zealand farms.
Some of these include abuse, exploitation, underpayment, and exposure to dangerous conditions.
A study in New Zealand was conducted to determine the conditions of these workers.
According to their findings, respondents shared their experiences in working under hazardous conditions. One instance included the use of motorbikes without a helmet for a couple of years.
Protective gears were also not provided, leaving them exposed to chemicals. A respondent experienced vomiting due to such exposure.
The Union Network of Migrants are now aiming to fight for standardized employment agreements, hoping to give migrant workers, such as OFWs, better lives.
